Improving Students' Mathematical Communication Skills Through the MeA Learning Model

Mathematical communication ability is the ability to convey written mathematical ideas/ideas as well as the ability to understand and accept mathematical ideas/ideas from other people carefully, analytically, critically, and evaluatively to sharpen understanding. This study aims to produce studies on improving students' mathematical communication abilities with the MeA model learning. The research method used is quantitative research with a pre-experimental model designed in the form of a one-group pre-test, post-test design. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Soe which consisted of 6 classes and the research sample was class VIII A which was taken by simple random sampling technique. Data collection techniques and instruments used in the test were in the form of description questions consisting of pre-test and post-test questions. The data analysis technique uses paired t-sample test with the prerequisite test, namely the normality test followed by N-gain to find out how much the students' mathematical communication skills have increased. Based on the results of the analysis, the value is obtained tcount = -43,821 dan ttable =1,710 where ttable > tcount, with an α value of 0.05. This shows that there is an increase in students' mathematical communication skills by learning the MeA model. The increase in students' mathematical communication skills is in the medium category with an N-gain of 0.68.
